FAQs

What vaccination will my dog require?

We require a current C5 Vaccine which covers Distemper, Hepatitis, Parvo Virus, Bordetella and strains of Canine Parainfluenza (Kennel Cough).

You will be required to upload a photo of your dog vaccination certificate when you book for a sleepover.

If you book your dog for hikes or doggy day care, just send a photo via email or via sms.

We charge per night.

What will you feed my dog?

Whatever you give us! We don’t provide food as too many of our pooches have specialist diets. We will feed whatever you give us. Pleasegive us as much details as possibly on what, how much and most importantly when! otherwise we will just ask your pooch, what and when he wants to be fed!

Where will pooch sleep?

More or less anywhere he wants. Our only rule is no dogs in the bedrooms. If your dog is allowed on the sofa, then he can sleep on the sofa; crate trained? we have crates for him to make it his castle.

Wherever he chooses to sleep, bring his bedding along please.

note: as part of our license, dogs aren’t allowed to sleep (at night) outside. If your dog is an outside dog, the best we can do is for them to sleep at night in our laundry. However from experience, dogs quickly learn what they can and cannot do, if allowed inside at The Dog House, they will remember to sleep outside at home.

Parasites… we don’t want them.

Please make sure that, as well as up to date vaccination, your dog also is up to date on parasites prevention. This is to protect us and our home from intestinal worms as well as fleas, mites and creepy crawlies. They are unwanted guests.

Do you accept unneutered/unspayed dogs?

Yes, we do welcome entire dogs. However, please note that we cannot accommodate females in heat under any circumstances. If a female dog is found to be in season during her stay, we kindly ask owners to arrange for her to be picked up.

Do you groom pooches?

No, we aren’t groomers. Sometimes, if your pooch has had a whale of a time, might give him a bath, but this is no way a groom bath! There are a couple of hoomans that organise for their pooch to have a groomer visit on the last day, right after pick up or just beforehand. We can discuss if this is something that might interest you.

How young can a puppy be to join in?

For sleepover and doggy day care, puppies need to be a minimum of 16 weeks old, and be fully vaccinated.

What are drop off or pick up times?

We are available for drop off or pick up between 8am and 9am (9.30am in winter) and between 12.30pm and 6pm. Please arrange with us what time you will be here as it affects other dogs bookings. A fee might be charged for unplanned late pickups or early drop offs.

How many dogs can join the party?

We are licensed to a maximum of 4 dogs on site at any one time. We are also required for someone to be here and supervise 24/7.

My dog has some attitude issues - can you handle reactive dogs?

Let’s chat. Resi and Vince are experienced dog handlers and with our training programme together with the high supervision rate, we have been able to successfully integrate dogs with /attitude’ just fine. As part of our Meet & Greet, Resi will get to know the dog and see what the issue is and we can work on a way forward.
Be aware that we do also offer Sole Occupancy, just for your own dogs! So if you want peace of mind or your doggo would love some ‘me’ time, make sure you discuss the option with us. Please note that sole occupancy needs to be booked well in advance as we are often 4-6 weeks head fully booked.

What is pooch is ill?

We work closely with Indigo Veterinary Services and Resi also worked as a veterinary nurse. We treat pooches as part of our family, if we think they need to see dr Helen or dr Chris, we will organise a vet visit. Of course, we will keep you or your emergency contact informed.

My pooch needs to be given medications - can you help?

Absolutely, and for tablets, drops or other topical application, there won’t be a charge. If your dog has more complicated medical needs let us know so we can discuss this in details.

What about danger noodles, aka snakes?

We are on a 12 acres lifestyle block and this is Australia. We have brown and black snakes on the property, like most of the rest of Victoria. Snakes have learnt that we have quite a few dogs and we noticed less and less snakes in our fenced area. If a snake is in the yard, we bring all dogs inside and wait for the snake to go on his merry way. A few of our regular pooches are snake aversion trained and we highly recommend for you to consider it for your pooch.

In case of a snake bite, the first thing we do is to go to the vet, Indigo Veterinary Services in Beechworth and Kiewa and Oven Vets in Myrtleford, share after hours service. We will call you once the vet has seen your pooch and decided on a treatment plan. We will always seek treatment for a pooch that has had a snake encounter and advise you to have pet insurance to cover the cost of treatment.

What if there is a fire threat?

In case of a fire, we follow advice by Vic Emergency. At the stage they advise us to ‘plan & prepare’, we will contact you or your emergency contact and discuss together what the options are.
